This is a course PeakSmart are running on behalf of Norfolk Scouts. There are 2 one-day courses on Saturday 6th July and the Sunday 7th July.
You will need to have completed the YPS Tutor for air rifle to enrol on this course.

The air pistol instructors course is one of disciplines within the NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme Family. The Scout Association now require anyone who runs air pistol as an activity to be qualified to at least this level to run air pistol as an activity with scouts. The air pistol instructors course is also a good way to learn the skills to introduce air pistol shooting as an additional activity within any club or organisation.
This air pistol instructors course is an add on for those who already have a qualification with air rifle. Because there is a lot of commonality between the rifle and pistol course, the add on course can be run in a single day. This course covers:
- Air pistol safety
- Techniques for shooting an air pistol two handed and singe handed
- Developing shooting technique specific to air pistol shooting
- How to safely instruct others in the use of the range and the air pistols.
- Information about different types of air pistols.
Course details
The air pistol instructors course is a mixture of theory and practical sessions. You don’t need any experience shooting an air pistol as full instruction is part of the course. You do need to come with an open mind and plenty of enthusiasm. During the course of the day each of the candidates will run the range at some point. This is to help you get the feel for the additional safety issues associated with air pistols.
The course costs include registration of your qualification with the NSRA and the comprehensive course handbook.
Air pistol instructors course tutor
The course tutor is Andrew Nimmo. Andrew started his coaching journey with the YPS tutors diploma course in the dim and distant past. He runs this course on a regular basis and is quite happy to discuss your individual needs and tweak the course so that everyone gets what they need from it. As well as working with PeakSmart, Andrew is currently coaching within the British Shooting Pathway Programme with the Talent Academy. He is also a Scout Leader in Buxton.
