NSRA Coaching Courses

The NSRA coaching course structure is outlined in the diagram below. All coaching qualifications above the YPS Tutor qualification require the candidate to be an individual member of the NSRA. For full details of membership go to the NSRA web site.

NSRA Coaching Course Structure

We offer the following courses:

  • At the entry level, the club Instructor airgun, includes air rifle and air pistol.
  • Or if you are a cartridge rifle enthusiast, the club instructor prone rifle and 3 position rifle.
  • The transition from instruction to coaching with the club coach
  • Finally, the extended coaching course, the county coach

NSRA Club Instructor Course

The club instructor courses are 2 days in duration and cover the basic skills for the chosen discipline. The airgun course can be tuned to cover more rifle or more pistol depending on requirements.

The club instructor prone rifle is 2 days, with an additional day required to upgrade the skills for 3 position shooting.

NSRA Club Coach Course

The club coach course is not discipline specific and is an introduction into coaching. This means taking the technical skills already learned in a discipline and using that to deliver effective training to others. It helps you take the step from instructing to coaching.

The course is 2 days plus extra time for an assessment. For the assessment, the candidate will deliver a 20 minute coaching session under observation.

  • Helping people to learn
  • Putting it all together a practical coaching session

We aim to run a club coach course once a year, usually in the late winter or early spring. For specific courses check out the courses page.

NSRA County Coach Course

The County Coach qualification builds on the coaching skills developed in the Club Coach course. It introduces the use of technology, a look into sports psychology and opens up the physical training side of the sport.

This course is 4 days, usually completed over 2 weekends, followed by an assessment day. The assessment comes in 2 parts:

  • Candidates must deliver a section of the Club Coach Course under observation
  • Candidates will complete a 9 week coaching diary of work with a shooter showing the planned development outlined on the course

  • Tracking / diaries.
  • Re-evaluation.
  • Warm ups.
  • Physical training.
  • Psychological skills.
  • Delivery of Club Coach Course.
  • Use of electronic training aids (Scatt).
  • Use of video and other technology.
