YPS Course Stacking, Winter Storms and Shooting Training

It’s been a busy year so far with plenty of travelling around the country. With the latest variant of covid it has felt like I’ve been constantly testing to make sure that YPS course still happen.

I don’t know how many miles it’s been, but the winter course schedule started in Norwich with back-to-back one-day YPS air pistol courses to top up rifle qualified instructors in Norfolk Scouts. It was Scouts again the week after at Alfrey Activity Centre in Warwickshire, this time for YPS tutor air rifle.

The following week was back-to-back courses in the south. Runway’s End Activity Centre in Hampshire followed by Bentley Copse in Surrey, both with the YPS tutor air rifle course. These were like chalk and cheese. The lovely indoor range at Runway’s End was the cleanest range I have ever been into. Bentley Copse took place on a semi outdoor range. Thankfully with a lovely indoor space for the classroom (and to warm up).

YPS Course British Tour

After less than a day at home it was off on a British tour. This time to deliver multiple back-to-back YPS tutor air rifle courses. It started with Haven Holidays sites in Great Yarmouth and Filey in the middle of storm Dudley. Then driving down to London in the middle of Storm Eunice. Where I delivered another scouting centric YPS air rifle course at Frylands Wood (Lewisham Scouts).

The tour continued with Haven sites. This time it was only a short drive down the A21 to St Leonards near Hastings. No rest, as this was followed by a mad dash from the South Coast up to North Wales to Pwllheli. Both Haven sites were YPS tutor air rifle courses, making sure the activity staff from Haven sites around the country are ready to welcome visitors this season.

I finally made it back home after 12 days for a break. It wasn’t the end of the courses though; at least the next course, YPS tutor air rifle, was at home in Buxton. This course picked up participants from Manchester, Stoke on Trent and Burton on Trent. The final trip of the winter was up into Yorkshire again for Easingwold Scouts for another YPS air rifle course.

It’s been an amazing few weeks training activity centre staff, holiday park activity staff and scout leaders from around the country. Now it’s time for a rest and get ready for the spring and summer.
